HÀ NỘI — South Korea’s Incheon United, whom Vietnamese forward Nguyễn Công Phượng plays for, yesterday sacked their coach Jorn Andersen from Norway.

The decision was made following five consecutive losses, leaving the team with just four points after seven games. The nail in the coffin was a 3-0 defeat to Ulsan Huyndai.

Speaking at a press conference after being sacked, Andersen said he would like to thank his players, who stuck together despite the lack of bad results over the past few months. “Although I am not with the team anymore, I hope they will improve over the course of the season.”

The Norweigian was appointed coach in June 2018. Despite boating strong players such as Moon Chang-jin, Kim Seung-yong, Lee Jae-sung and Phượng, he was unable to find a winning formula. — VNS
