Liêm draws to Russian grandmaster at Isle of Man Open

Việt Nam’s top chess player Lê Quang Liêm draw to grandmaster Lomasov Semen from Russia in the fifth round at the Isle of Man (IoM) International Chess Tournament, held recently at Villa Marina, Isle of Man, England.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top chess player Lê Quang Liêm drew with grandmaster Semen Lomasov from Russia in the fifth round at the Isle of Man International Chess Tournament, held recently in the UK.

Liêm, Elo 2,715, drew with Lomasov, Elo 2,540, after 56 moves. In the four previous rounds, Liêm had two wins, one draw and a loss to Abhijeet Gupta from India, Elo 2,588.

After five rounds, Liêm ranks 39th in the table after starting the tournament at 14th.

However, he is only 1.5 points away to from top players group and a top spot is still available if he performs well in the final four rounds.

The Isle of Man tournament features 20 players among the top grandmasters in the world. — VNS
