Vietnamese top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam won the men’s singles first round of the Sweden F5 Futures tennis tournament on Tuesday.

HÀ NỘI — Viet Nam’s top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam won in the men’s singles first round of the Sweden F5 Futures tennis tournament on Tuesday.

No 8 seed Nam beat Carl Gustafsson of the hosts 6-3, 6-2.

The southern province of Tây Ninh-born Nam is world senior No 503, while Gustafsson is world junior No 319.

Nam will next meet Michal Konecny of Czech Republic, world No 566.

Nam is spending a year training in Spain to improve his world ranking. The expenditure for the training is about US$250,000 and is paid for by his club, Becamex Bình Dương.

The US$25,000 Sweden F5 Futures is part of his training trip. — VNS
