HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam national women’s volleyball team defeated South Korea 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-16) in their final match of the sixth Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Cup for Women at the Chartchai Hall in Thailand on Sunday.

Previously, the Vietnamese beat Australia 3-0 to qualify for the fifth place match.

Việt Nam focused on defence and took control of South Korea’s strong attackers Ha Hyejin, Go Yerim and Han Sooji.

In the first set, second setter Linh Chi passed smoothly to hitters Thanh Thúy, Kim Thanh, and Bùi Thị Ngà and Việt Nam took a 25-22 victory.

The girls pressed on in  the second set and took a dominant 25-10 win, before completing the sweep 25-16 in the third.

The victory owed much to Thanh Thúy (16 points), Kim Thanh (13 points), and Bùi Thị Ngà (12 points). On the other side, Ha Hyejin got 12 points and hitter Go Yerim had 7 points.

With this victory, Việt Nam finished fifth and South Korea fell to sixth. This is a huge success for Việt Nam as previously, when the tournament was held on home soil in 2016, the team placed seventh.

The championship went to mainland China, while Japan were runners-up, with Thailand third.
