HCM City — Defending champions HCM City 1 defeated Phong Phú Hà Nam 2-1 in the second leg of the National Women’s Football Championship on Thursday.

The game was held at Thống Nhất Statium in HCM City.

Thanks to the victory, HCM City 1 have climbed to second place in the table with 18 points after nine matches, while Hà Nam have dropped to fourth with 16 points.

Heavy rain hampered HCM City 1’s attacking ambitions, but they still managed to grab the opener from the penalty spot in the sixth minute through striker Huỳnh Như.

As the rain died down, the game opened up, and Tuyết Dung and Như both had chances to increase HCM City’s lead, and it wasn’t until the stroke of half time that Mỹ Anh landed what turned out to be the killer blow with a shot from the left wing.

After the break, the visiting side fought back strongly, and Phạm Thị Tươi headed to narrow the gap for Hà Nam in the 76th minute.

In Thursday’s other game, Hà Nội defeated HCM City 2 2-0 to top the rankings with 20 points. — VNS
