Two new national records were made at the National Youth Athletics Championship which concluded in HCM City on August 8.

HÀ NỘI — Two new national records were made at the National Youth Athletics Championship which concluded in HCM City on August 8.

Nguyễn Đức Sơn of Hà Nội set a new record in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 52.41secs, beating the old record set by Phan Khắc Hoàng of 53.15secs set in 2015.

The other record belonged to the Bình Dương men’s 4x 800m team with a time of 7:43.86. They won the gold medal and broke the old record set by Quảng Ninh of 7:58.50 in 2009.

After four days of competition, Hà Nội topped the medal tally with nine golds, six silvers and six bronzes. The Military team ranked second with six golds, three silvers and six bronzes. Đà Nẵng came third with four golds, six silvers and two bronzes.

The tournament attracted the participation of 46 teams across the country including Hà Nội, Hà Nam and Bình Dương, competing for 47 sets of medals.

The event, which was held at Thống Nhất Stadium, aimed to select best athletes for the national teams and prepare for the Southeast Asian Games 2019. — VNS
