HCM CITY — Saigon Heat beat HCM City Wings 106-89 during a derby match in the Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) League on Thursday.
The game was held at Hồ Xuân Hương Gymnasium in HCM City.
With the support of fans on their hometurf, the Wings dominated the game from the start. However, Dư Minh An, Hồng Gia Lân and Tavarion Nix stepped up to help the visiting Heat take the lead at 31-15.
In the second quarter, the Wings fought back strongly to narrow the gap but failed.
After that, several key players of the Heat, including Trần Đăng Khoa, Tim Waale and Nix made individual errors, causing the team to cool off their attacks.
Taking full advantage of the chance, the Wings went on the offensive. Facing a strong defence, they struggled to make a serious dent in the score.
Finishing the third period, the score was 81-67 in favour of the Heat.
In the remaining time, the Heat continued to play a number of three-point shots to win the match 106-89.
Lân of the Heat won the MVP award with 20 points.
With this win, the Heat moved to second place in the rankings, while the Wings remained bottom.
The Heat will next meet Danang Dragons on July 15, while HCM City Wings will face Hanoi Buffaloes on July 17. — VNS
