Việt Nam lose to Australia in AFF semi-finals

The Việt Nam national women’s football team lost to Australia’s U-20 team 2-4 in the semi-finals of the AFF Women’s Championship in Indonesia yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam national women’s football team lost to Australia’s U-20 team 2-4 in the semi-finals of the AFF Women’s Championship in Indonesia yesterday.

Midfielder Nguyễn Thị Tuyết Dung scored the opener for Việt Nam in the 16th minute, but only two minutes later, Australia’s Alexandra Carla Chidiac netted the equaliser.

Australia took a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute thanks to Courtney Jade Nevin.

Việt Nam fought back strongly to narrow the gap in the second half and created several chances to score but they failed to find the net.

In the 64th minute, Kyra Lillle Conney Cross lifted the score to 3-1 for Australia from a pass in the right wing. Ten minutes later, Australia celebrated the fourth goal. Dung got on the scoresheet once more but to no avail.

Việt Nam will meet Myanmar, who lost to Thailand 3-1 in the other semi-final yesterday, in the bronze-medal match tomorrow. — VNS
