HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese cyclist Nguyễn Thị Thật has jumped two places in the International Cycling Union (UCI)’s rankings to 34th, making her the highest ranked Asian in the world.

Thật finished third in the one-day women’s GP Sofie Goos 2018 in Belgium over the weekend in which she completed 110km in a time of 2:44.56.

The event attracted the participation of 147 racers from around the world.

Thật won the Dwars door de Westhoek in Belgium in June.

That, from the southern province of An Giang, competed for the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC), where she received her training in Switzerland. During her training, she will take part in several more tournaments in Europe in the WCC jersey to prepare for the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD) in Indonesia in August.

In February, she beat 26 rivals to win the women’s 106km road race at the Asian Road and Para Cycling Championships in Myanmar. It was the first gold medal won by a Vietnamese female cyclist in an Asian tour. In March, she won the Grand Prix of Crevoisier 2018 in Les Genevez, Switzerland. Two weeks before that, the Southeast Asian Games winner finished second in the 16th Grand Prix of Chambery in France. — VNS
