Thảo wins gold medal at Chinese Taipei Athletics Open

Bùi Thị Thu Thảo won a gold medal in women’s long jump at the Chinese Taipei Athletics Open which wrapped up in Taipei Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

HÀ NỘI — Bùi Thị Thu Thảo won a gold medal in women’s long jump at the Chinese Taipei Athletics Open which wrapped up in Taipei Municipal Stadium on Saturday.

Thảo recorded a jump of 6.34m to finish first.

“I am not satisfied with my result as my goal in this event was 6.40m,” said Thảo.

Last August, Thảo won gold in the Southeast Asian Games after clearing 6.68m.

Sunang Marestella of the Philippines took silver medal with a 6.22m jump, while with the result of 6.19m, Vietnamese Nguyễn Thị Trúc Mai took bronze.

Earlier, another Vietnamese representative Quách Thị Lan also won a gold medal in the women’s 400m with a time of 52.82secs. Lan’s teammate, Nguyễn Thị Hằng seized silver with a time of 55.03secs.

In the women’s triple jump, Vũ Thị Mến won the silver medal with a leap of 13.57m. Parinya Chuaimaroeng of Thailand won gold with 14.17m.

Việt Nam sent 11 athletes to take part in the two-day event which was considered the most important event for many East Asian and Southeast Asian countries to prepare for the Asian Games that will be held in Jakarta in August. — VNS
