HÀ NỘI — Coach Đinh Hồng Vinh will take charge of Cần Thơ FC for two years, the club announced.
Vinh ended his contract as a coaching assistant with Hoàng Anh Gia Lai after the V.League 2017 season finished last week.
He replaces coach Vũ Quang Bảo, who helped the team avoid relegation in 2016 and 2017. However, the result and playing style of the team did not meet the demands of the managers of the club, which has huge support.
Cần Thơ is ranked No. 13 among 14 teams.
Vinh, who will officially take over on December 25, revealed he would recruit some players, especially the younger ones, from his former club. Their inclusion would help build a successful team under his reign.
“I have experience in training for many years, so I feel no pressure. At first, I will gradually make changes at the club with a view to lifting its performance in the next season,” Vinh, who was an assistant to coach Hoàng Anh Tuấn for the national U19 and U20 squads, said.
He was also coach of the club’s U15 team, which won the national title last year.
Further, together with coach Tuấn, Vinh helped the U20s secure their slot at the FIFA U20 World Cup earlier this year. — VNS
