HÀ NỘI — Trịnh Văn Vinh brought home another gold medal for Việt Nam from the International Weightlifting Federation World Championships on Thursday afternoon (Hà Nội time) in California, the United States.

It is the fourth gold medal for the Việt Nam team at the championships, after Thạch Kim Tuấn took a hat trick a day earlier.

Vinh finished on top in the men’s 62kg snatch event with a lift of 136kg.

He was followed by Han Myeongmok of South Korea (135kg) and Ergashev Adkhamjon from Uzbekistan (135kg).

However, Vinh failed in all three attempts in the clean and jerk event, which was won by Francisco Antonio Mosquera Valencia of Colombia with a result of 170kg.

Jose Lino Montes Gongora and Antonio Vazquez Mendez came second and third, respectively.

Due to his failure in the second event, Vinh was not ranked in the total category.

Lại Gia Thành of Việt Nam also competed in this event, but the 18-year-old world junior champion could not pull off a surprise. He was No 16 in snatch, No 13 in clean and jerk and No 14 overall.

In the women’s 48kg pool, two Vietnamese representatives Vương Thị Huyền and Nguyễn Thị Thúy lost to strong rivals. — VNS
