HÀ NỘI — The first Việt Nam Open Paragliding Tournament ended on Sunday with Nguyễn Thế Anh of Hà Nội Paragliding Club bagging the top spot.
Anh overcame athletes from both local and foreign clubs to win the men’s gold medal.
Vũ Tuấn Anh of Viewwings Hà Nội came second and Nguyễn Đại Nghĩa of Đà Nẵng Club was third.
Chu Thiên Hương of Hà Nội Paragliding Club claimed the women’s title.
The tournament, which was organised over two days, attracted 66 participants, competing at Bù Hill in Chương Mỹ District, Hà Nội.
The tournament is expected to officially become part of the competition system in Southeast Asia in the near future.
According to Võ Quốc Thắng of the organising board, paragliding is strongly developing in Việt Nam. Earlier, there were dozens of people engaged in this sport, but the number has now increased to more than 200.
Paragliding is an event at the 2018 Asian Games and is also expected to be part of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Việt Nam plans to participate in both competitions.
Thắng hoped the Việt Nam Open would be a strong push for local athletes and serve as good preparation for national team members competing at the Indonesian Asian Games next year. — VNS
