HÀ NỘI — The 10th Việt Nam Hockey Festival is scheduled to start at the Việt Nam Hockey Centre in Bến Lức Town, Long An Province on November 4-5.
The event is a six-a-side hockey tournament played outdoors, which started in Việt Nam in 2008.
The tournament will attract the participation of 24 teams from Australia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei alongside five teams from the host nation Việt Nam.
Notably, Việt Nam’s Tôn Đức Thắng University will put forward two teams at the upcoming event for the first time.
“I am very pleased my new players will get experience against foreign teams at the festival,” said Huỳnh Đại Phúc, coach of Tôn Đức Thắng University.”
It is one of many hockey tournaments in Southeast Asia which promotes the sport supported by the Asian Hockey Federation and Việt Nam Hockey Federation (VHF). It is designed to give Vietnamese players exposure to foreign hockey talents playing in Việt Nam,” said James Chew, CEO of VHF.
Trần Văn Mạnh, president of VHF, said he hoped this tournament would continue to promote hockey in the country.
The hockey matches will be free of charge for spectators. — VNS
