Thắng selects squad for Asian Cup qualifier

Coach Nguyễn Hữu Thắng has announced his players for the game with Jordan in the second match of Group C of the Asian Cup 2019’s qualifying round.

HÀ NỘI — Viet Nam national football coach Nguyễn Hữu Thắng has announced his squad for the game against Jordan in the second match of Group C in the Asian Cup 2019 qualifiers.

Thắng selected 28 players, most of who played in the first match against Afghanistan in March which finished 1-1, including midfielders Nguyễn Tuấn Anh and Nguyễn Phong Hồng Duy of Hoàng Anh Gia Lai (HAGL), strikers Nguyễn Công Phượng of HAGL and Nguyễn Văn Quyết of Hà Nội.

The team also welcomes back midfielder Lương Xuân Trường, who plies his trade in South Korea for Gangwon United.

Notably, Thắng selected seven players who played in the FIFA U20 World Cup including goalie Bùi Tiến Dũng, defenders Hồ Tấn Tài, Đoàn Văn Hậu and striker Hà Đức Chinh.

According to deputy chairman of the Việt Nam Football Federation Trần Quốc Tuấn, Thắng chose many U20 players as part of preparations for the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia in August.

The squad will convene in HCM City on June 5 before facing Jordan on June 13 at Thống Nhất Stadium. — VNS
