HÀ NỘI — Merckx Eddy of Belgium won the Three-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup, which concluded in HCM City on Sunday.

The world No 11 cueist defeated Torbjorn Blomdahl of Sweden, world No 7, 40-32 after 17 moves in the final match.

Earlier, Eddy crushed Vietnamese cueist Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện, world No 13, in the main round.

The event, a World Billiards Union (UMB) event, featured more than 130 players from 16 nations and territories.

Việt Nam sent 26 players to participate in the tournament, of which six players reached the final round, including Nguyện; Trần Quyết Chiến, world No 15; and Mã Minh Cẩm, No 18.

The event was organised by the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, UMB, Asian Carom Billiard Confederation and the National Sports Administration. — VNS
