HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s Vietinbank were headed home after losing to Japan’s Hisamitsu Springs in the Asian Women’s Club Samruk Kazyna Volleyball Championship in Kazakhstan on Saturday.

The Vietnamese team lost its final Group B match in three straight sets 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 to the Japanese side.

The Japanese showed their power from the beginning taking a 16-6 lead with attacks from the left flank by Yuka Taura. They also scored from the service line and capitalised on their opponents’ errors. At the same time, captain Risa Ishibashi did a good job of defending the net well with her blocks.

The Japanese side put in a consistent performance throughout the match.

Vietinbank’s Đoàn Thị Xuân and Đinh Thị Thúy also scored, but they could not sustain their firepower to surmount the huge gap.

Hisamitsu Seiyaku Springs, who topped the group with three wins, will face Chinese Taipei’s Taiwan Power in the quarter-final match today at the Boris Alexandrov Sports Palace. — VNS
