Việt Nam pocket two golds at Asian Grand Prix

Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals yesterday in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix 2017 in Jinhua, a prefecture-level city in central Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals yesterday in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix 2017 in Jinhua, a prefecture-level city in central Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

Long jumper Bùi Thị Thu Thảo won the first gold with a jump of 6.58m jump in the women’s category and grabbed her first title of the year, also the first for Việt Nam in 2017.

Her teammate Quách Thị Lan triumphed in the women’s 400m with a timing of 53.15sec.

Her older brother Quách Công Lịch claimed a silver in the men’s 400m, clocking 47.21sec.

Earlier, Dương Thị Việt Anh came second in the women’s high jump with a result of 1.80m.

Elsewhere, young runner Lê Tú Chinh, 19, ranked fourth in the women’s 100m, while Khuất Phương Anh finished sixth in the women’s 800m, and Nguyễn Văn Hùng was sixth in the men’s triple jump.

Athletes will continue with the second leg in Jiaxing City, also in Zhejiang, on Thursday. — VNS
