HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese taekwondo martial artists got a boost yesterday, with the Asian Taekwondo Union announcing that the poomsae taekwondo event will be held at the Asian Games (Asiad) 2018 in Indonesia for the first time next year.

In recent years, Việt Nam’s poomsae taekwondo team have performed well in international tournaments with gold medals from Châu Tuyết Vân, Nguyễn Thị Lệ Kim and Nguyễn Thiên Phụng.

In the Asiad pre-tournament held in South Korea last year, Vân and Phụng also bagged golds.

Nguyễn Thanh Huy, head coach of poomsae taekwondo team said Vietnamese players will train for two months before the event. They will face strong rivals from the hosts Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. – VNS
