HÀ NỘI — HCM City athletes dominated the show at the National Chess Championship yesterday in Hà Nội.

Their masters, Đào Thiên Hải and Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm, came from behind to take the lead in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.

After two rounds yesterday, Grandmaster (GM) Hải grabbed 5.5 points from one win and one draw to replace Hanoian GM Trần Tuấn Minh at the top position.

Minh with five points is second, followed by International Master (IM) Bảo Khoa of Lâm Đồng.

Veteran master Hải will next meet IM Nguyễn Văn Huy of Hà Nội while Minh will see Khoa.

Women’s GM Trâm also snatched a win and a draw yesterday to garner a total of six points in seven matches.

She is followed by Hanoian Lương Phương Hạnh, who drops down after a loss in the sixth-round match, and IM Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên of Cần Thơ.

The eighth match will see Trâm versus her teammate WGM Nguyễn Thị Thanh An. Hạnh will meet Hải Phòng’s Lê Thị Hà and Nguyên will play Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo of Bắc Giang. — VNS
