HÀ NỘI — U20 Việt Nam lost to U23 Borussia Monchengladbach 0-1 in a friendly match, part of their two-week training camp in Germany to prepare for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup in South Korea, on April 19.
Coach Hoàng Anh Tuấn’s started strongly; however, Borussia Monchengladbach put pressure on the Vietnamese goal. Their efforts paid off in the 29th minute as defender Sezer Bilal beat goalie Nguyên Mạnh’s, opening the scoring for the German side.
In the second half, Việt Nam struggled to breach the German defence, forcing Tuấn to bring on substitutes with the hope of creating scoring opportunities. But Việt Nam missed chance after chance, leaving the final score 1-0.
Việt Nam will next meet U21 Roda JC of the Netherlands at Seghemanstraat Stadium in the Netherlands on April 23 and Fortuna 05 Dusseldorf on April 26 in Duisburg before returning home on April 28.
