Hanoian players top national chess championship

Host masters Lương Phương Hạnh and Trần Tuấn Minh dominated the National Chess Championship after the fifth rounds yesterday in Hà Nội.

HÀ NỘI — Host masters Lương Phương Hạnh and Trần Tuấn Minh dominated the National Chess Championship after the fifth rounds yesterday in Hà Nội.

Hạnh, who has not won any World Chess Federation title yet, continued her amazing performance beating Women’s International Master Võ Thị Kim Phụng of Bắc Giang who is the No 3 seed here.

Hạnh is the sole leader of the women’s category with 4.5 points after four wins and one draw.

No 2 seed IM Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên from Cần Thơ had a draw game in a match against No 1 seed Women’s Grandmaster Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm of HCM City.

In the next round, Hạnh will meet Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo of Bắc Giang. She is currently at No 4 with four points.

Nguyên will see WGM Nguyễn Thị Mai Hưng of Bắc Giang and Trâm will play Lê Thị Hà of Hải Phòng.

On the men’s side, all six matches of leading masters ended in a draw. It made no change in their overall ranking.

GM Minh is in top place with four points. IM Lê Tuấn Minh of Bình Dương is at second position with 3.5. GM Bùi Vinh of Hà Nội is at third with the same points but less parameters. — VNS
