HÀ NỘI — The national U15 girls’ team convened in Hà Nội yesterday to prepare for the upcoming 2017 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U15 Girls Football Championship.

The 26-member team are being trained by head coach Nguyễn Mai Lan and are practising at the Việt Nam Youth Football Training Centre. The team will have around one month to sharpen their skills for the event.

During the training, the team will play five friendly matches with Hà Nội 2 team, the national youth team, and Hà Nội’s U13 boys’ team.

Việt Nam are in Group A alongside Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. Teams will compete in the round robin format, and the best two teams will enter the semi-finals.

Việt Nam will play Thailand on May 7.

The tournament, which will be held in Vientiane, Laos, from May 5 to 21, will follow the official competition system of the AFF.

From this year, the AFF is holding many junior football events so that teams in the region have the opportunity to practise and improve their skills for junior tournaments of the Asian Football Confederation. — VNS
