Bảo wins world junior weightlifting gold medal

Lê Nguyễn Quốc Bảo won a gold medal at the ongoing 2017 IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

HÀ NỘI — Lê Nguyễn Quốc Bảo won a gold medal at the ongoing 2017 IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Bảo lifted 96kg in the snatch of the men’s 50kg category to take gold. Chomchuen Teerapat of Thailand won silver medal with 94kg and Deng Hanpeng of China won the bronze medal with 92kg.

In the clean and jerk, Bảo succeeded in lifting 119kg and received bronze medal. Teerapat took gold medal after lifting 125kg and the silver medal belonged to Huang Shiguo of China with 123kg.

With 215kg in total lift, Bảo won silver medal. Thailand’s Teerapat won gold medal with 216kg and Shiguo of China won bronze medal with 213kg.

Bảo has competed in weightlifting since 2011. He won two golds and one silver at the same event in 2015. Last year, he won one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Việt Nam sent seven male and six female to the tournament which has attracted 445 top young athletes from 57 countries around the globe.

The event’s top athletes will qualify for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Argentina on October 6-18 next year. — VNS
