HÀ NỘI — Midfielder Hendrio Araújo Da Silva has found a new home and a new identity, with the Hà Nội FC player officially granted Vietnamese citizenship and now known by the Vietnamese name Đỗ Hoàng Hên, a move that reflects both a personal milestone and a broader step forward for Việt Nam’s professional football and international integration.
Since signing his contract with Hà Nội FC in May 2025, the club and Hendrio have shared a long-term vision, with naturalisation identified early on as a strategic objective. In recognition of his professional qualities and positive character, the club’s management has fully supported him throughout the process, from learning the Vietnamese language and understanding local culture to navigating the legal framework and completing all required procedures in line with regulations.
The effort was carried out through close coordination between Hà Nội FC, the Việt Nam Football Federation, the Sports Authority of Việt Nam and other relevant agencies, ensuring transparency, efficiency and full compliance with legal standards.
Beyond his club duties, Hên is widely expected to become a valuable addition to the Vietnamese national team in the near future. With Vietnamese football currently lacking a true No.10 attacking midfielder, the inclusion of a technically gifted player like Hên, who understands Vietnamese culture and is keen to contribute, is seen as a promising and timely strategy.

“We are thrilled to welcome another member to the Vietnamese football family. We hope he continues to exemplify professionalism and dedication, making tangible contributions to the growth of Vietnamese football,” said Nguyễn Minh Châu, Deputy General Secretary of the VFF.
Hên’s journey reflects a broader trend, with Vietnamese football becoming increasingly professional and more closely aligned with international standards, similar to the progress seen in Thailand, Japan and South Korea.
His successful naturalisation could serve as a model for many foreign players who have long been part of the V.League 1, encouraging them to raise their awareness, attitude and commitment to the overall development of Vietnamese football. — VNS
