HÀ NỘI — The first Vietnam Collegiate Basketball Championship (VCBC) will push the development of basketball nationwide and create a playing ground for Vietnamese students.

The tournament, co-organised by the Việt Nam Student Support and Development Centre and New Sports, will feature 16 men's and eight women's teams from Hà Nội's universities and colleges and will be held from November 11 to May, 2025.

Teams are divided into two groups and will compete in the home-and-away round robin format during qualification, creating more opportunities for teams to exchange, learn and promote their skills and schools to wider volleyball communities.

The best four of each group in the men's side and two in the women's side will advance to the play-off round where they will play in the Best Of Three format in a centralised gymnasium.

To increase the quality of matches, teams are allowed to use both pro players and foreigners who are their universities' students, along with maximum two former students in their line-ups.

A total of nearly VNĐ100 million (US$4,000) is up for grabs, for both team and individual players.

In addition to competitive matches, there will be other activities including workshops and talk shows about basketball expertise, injury first aid techniques, and warm-up exercises, for supporters and players.

Organisers say that next season, the tournament will be open for teams from other big cities and province, on its way to becoming a national tournament in the near future.

It is believed that VCBC will prove to be a meaningful tournament, promoting the school sports movement and create exchange and learning opportunities for students nationwide.

All information will be updated regularly on the VCBC Fanpage. VNS
