HÀ NỘI — Lê Đức Phát's victory at the Lagos International Classics 2024 in Nigeria has significantly boosted his position in the world badminton rankings.

Việt Nam’s top player jumped seven spots to 61st place, adding 4,000 points to his total, which now stands at 27,780. However the points gap between Phát and the players at the bottom of the world’s top 60 is quite small. If he continues to perform well in upcoming tournaments, the 1998-born athlete could break into this elite group, achieving the best ranking of his career.

Earlier this year, in February, Phát also claimed the title at an international tournament in Uganda.

Phát’s teammate on the national team, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, also saw an improvement in his ranking, climbing to 75th place in the world with 23,700 accumulated points. At the Lagos International Classics 2024, Đăng was seeded number two but unfortunately fell in the semi-finals.

In the women's singles rankings, Nguyễn Thùy Linh moved up one spot to No 22 in the world, despite not participating in any tournaments last week. Meanwhile, Vũ Thị Anh Thư made a remarkable leap of 14 places, reaching No 110 globally. VNS
