PARIS — Lê Tiến Đạt swam much faster in the final but he failed to win Việt Nam a medal at the Paris Paralympics on September 2 Hà Nội time.
Đạt and teammate Đỗ Thanh Hải were only two Asian competitors among eight finallists of the men's 100m breaststroke SB5 event.
The Asian Games champion finished his race in a time of 1min 35.03sec, 1.07sec faster than his result in the heat. However, it was not enough to help him advance to the top three.
Leo McCrea of Switzelands won gold with a time of 1:27.15. He was followed by Antoni Pond Bertran from Spain (1:29.43) and Danylo Semenykhin of Ukraine (1:30.96).
Vietnamese Hải came at fifth clocking 1:35.61.
Việt Nam wrapped the swimming event and all eyes will be on running track and powerlifting stage on September 4.
Runner Phạm Nguyễn Khánh Minh will compete in the men's 400m T12 qualification at the Stade de France Stadium.
Former Paralympic and world powerlifting champion Lê Văn Công will take part in the men's 49kg and SEA Games winner Nguyễn Bình An will lift the barbell in the men's 54kg at the La Chapelle Arena.
The duo is Việt Nam's hope of medal at this Paralympic edition.
After four days of competition, China dominate the medal tally with 33 golds, 27 silvers and 11 bronzes. The United Kingdom stay second with 23 golds and the US are third with eight. VNS
