HÀ NỘI -- Archer Đỗ Thị Ánh Nguyệt will be the fifteenth Vietnamese athlete heading to the Paris Olympics, which will open next month.
World Archery has announced the last five slots for archers who have qualified for the French games.
These spots are selected based on athletes' individual achievements at the major tournaments and at Olympic qualifications.
The former SEA Games champion collected 64 points from 2023 Asian championships, 2023 world championships and the Olympic Asian zonal qualifier.
"Previously, I was told that there was no hope for me as all qualifications were over, so I did not believe it when receiving the news," said Nguyệt.
"I have confirmed with the coaching board and am over the moon. I will try my best to practise, follow coaches' requirements and compete well."
She will be taken part in her second Olympics in a row and will also be the second Vietnamese archer to compete in Paris, alongside Lê Quốc Phong.
In France, Nguyệt and Phong will be against 128 archers (64 for each gender) across five events, with the mixed team recurve returning to the Olympic programme for the second time. They will compete in individual events and mixed pairs.
The archery competitions are scheduled to run over a seven-day period, from July 25 at Les Invalides. VNS
