HCM CITY —  After announcing Lê Trần Minh Nghĩa as the head coach of the 2024 VBA season which will kick off on June 19, Cần Thơ Catfish has hinted at a new contract with the team's former player and legend, Tâm Đinh.

The Catfish hinted on their Facebook page about a player they will sign for the 2024 VBA season.

Words such as "Seagame 2019", "Comeback home" and "1990" all make many fans think of the legend of the Western city basketball team - Tâm Đinh.

Tâm Đinh or Đinh Thanh Tâm spent five years with the Catfish and had a wonderful time there.

During his time wearing the Catfish jersey, Tâm Đinh helped the team reach the VBA Finals three times in a row (2017-2018-2019) and win one VBA 2018 Championship.

He also won the VBA 2019 MVP award.

Perhaps this homecoming will be difficult, as it is hard to expect Tâm Đinh to help the whole team fly high in the VBA due to his age, but the emotions and spirit that he brings to the team and fans will certainly be wonderful.

The Việt Nam Pro Basketball Association (VBA) is undergoing several notable changes ahead of the 2024 season.

The most significant news is that former champions, the Thăng Long Warriors, will be taking a break from the league for the 2024 season, which is a major shock for fans.

Another surprising change is that all four teams - the HCM City Wings, the Nha Trang Dolphins, the Cần Thơ Catfish, and the Đà Nẵng Dragons - will share the same home venue, the Hồ Xuân Hương Gymnasium, during the regular season.

The VBA and the clubs explained that this is due to the fluctuating economic climate, allowing the teams to optimise their operations and logistics. While this may be unfortunate for fans in each locality, they will have the chance to support their teams again when the season enters the playoffs. — VNS
