HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) has extended contract with futsal coach Diego Giustozzi athough he just failed to bring the national team to the third World Cup in a row as targeted.
Việt Nam were ousted from the AFC Futsal Asian Cup after a defeat of 2-1 to Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals. The team also lost 3-2 to Kyrgyzstan in the play-off match, kicking away their 2026 World Cup opportunity.
VFF has decided to believe in the Argentinean coach who won World Cup trophy as manager in 2016 when Việt Nam finished at the quarter-finals.
Giustozzi, who came to Việt Nam in August, 2022, will continue working here until April 4, 2026.
In nearly two years under Giustozzi, Vietnamese team have made remarkable progress in both playing style and tactical mind. Their defence ability has been improve while power-play skills have been much better.
Despite failure, Việt Nam are still in the top group of the continental futsal.
The national team returned home on April 27. They will join their clubs in preparation for the national championship which will resume on June 6 in HCM City. — VNS
