It’s hard to disagree that the two best managers in the Premier League over the past five years or so have been Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

On the whole, they have been the two top teams battling it out for the title, and it’s fair to say that Pep has had the edge. Medals speak for themselves.

With Klopp’s announcement that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season, a lot was made of their meeting in the Premier League earlier this month as potentially the final time the two managers would face-off.

Of course, they could have met in the FA Cup but Liverpool were beaten, deservedly so, by Manchester United in the quarter finals.

However, they could actually meet again this season, although realistically speaking, it’s as slim a chance as a super model’s waist.

For it to happen, it would mean an unprecedented end to the season, the likes of which has never been seen before.

Should the top two sides in the table finish the season level on points, which is not beyond the realms of possibility, then the top spot is decided on goal difference.

If that’s identical, then it’s given to the team that’s scored the most goals during the campaign.

Again, if that figure is the same, it’s goes to whoever won the most points in the two head-to-head matches, then the most away goals in those games.

And remember, both fixtures this season between Liverpool and City finished one goal apiece.

Lots of ifs, buts and maybes, but technically, if there is no way to separate the two sides after all the above scenarios, then a 39th game would be needed to decide who lifts the Premiership title, a match that would be played at a neutral venue.

So maybe, just maybe, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and City’s Pep Guardiola could have one last dance to decide who is crowned champions.

It would be a great end to the season, and indeed Klopp’s reign at Anfield, but there’s still a lot of football to be played for that scenario to happen.

And of course, there’s the small matter of Arsenal. They are well and truly in the title race, and if they manage to beat City on Sunday, then you could even call them favourites.

So the chances of Pep and Jurgen going head-to-head once more may well be wishful thinking. But never say never. — VNS
