Việt Nam take two bronze medals at Asian Shooting Championship

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese marksmen secured two bronze medals at the Asian Shooting Championship on October 24 in Changwon, South Korea.

Asian Games champion Phạm Quang Huy and teammates Lại Công Minh and Phan Công Minh finished third in the men's 10m air pistol team event with total of 1,736 points.

Powerhouse China came first with 1,750 points, followed by athletes of the hosts who shot 1,746 points.

In the individual category, the Vietnamese trio did not score enough points to qualify for the finals. Huy had the highest with 581 to finish ninth place, Lại Công Minh and Phan Công Minh got 578 points and 577 points.

In the women's class, Trịnh Thu Vinh shot 581 points to be fifth in the qualification round. In the final of eight, she earned 219.7 points and placed third, ensuring a second bronze.

The winner was Oh Ye Jin of South Korea with 244.1 points. Jiang Ranxin of China ranked second with 241.8 points.

The 15th championship is taking place from October 22 to November 2 in Changwon City. Twenty three Vietnamese top shooters will vie for medal with more than 800 rivals from across Asia in various events.

A total of 24 Olympic quota places will be on offer in the Korean tournament. — VNS
