HÀ NỘI — Powerlifter Nguyễn Bình An won another bronze medal for Việt Nam at the Asian Para Games in China on Monday.

An finished third in the men’s 54kg with his lift of 184kg. David Degtyarev from Kazakhstan took gold with 186kg and Yang Jinglang of China claimed the silver medal lifting 185kg.

"This is my best performance ever in this category," An said.

"I put in a lot of effort in training, but I was still quite surprised to surpass the old Asian Para Games record."

Earlier, Lê Văn Công won bronze in the men's under 49kg with a lift of 173kg.

An's weightlifting journey began in 2010, when he participated in the national tournament and won the gold medal in the 52kg category with 154 kg. Three years later, at the Asian championship, he won gold in the 54kg category with 170kg which saw him break the Asian record. — VNS
