Up to 80 public construction sites around HCM City, many on major streets, are causing traffic congestion and disrupting daily life. The works are to renovate the drainage system and repair the route around the city, but it has become sluggish and has yet to reach completion so far.

The air defence grids in the capital and all across northern Vietnam bravely defended their skies in an aerial raid, known in Việt Nam as "Điện Biên Phủ u in the Air" and in the US as the 1972 Christmas bombing.
