ĐỒNG NAI — Police in southern Đồng Nai Province on Monday launched criminal proceedings against the director of a company involved in a wall collapse that killed ten workers and injured 14 others.
Hà Huy Hải, director of Hà Hải Nga Ltd Company, was arrested for investigation into violations in labour safety and hygiene following the Criminal Code.
Hải’s company was hired by Korean-funded AV Healthcare Company to build a 5,700sq.m factory specialising in producing diapers, milk bottles and tampons at the Giang Điền Industrial Park.
The contract value is up to VNĐ11.5 billion. The factory is expected to be completed by September.
The wall, 8m high and 109m long, collapsed at around 2pm on May 14. About 50 workers were at the site when the accident occurred.
Right after the accident, the Prime Minister sent a notice to the People’s Committee of Đồng Nai Province, ordering a prompt investigation into the case and strict punishment of violations in line with legal regulations.
On May 20, police started legal proceedings against the case to launch investigation into law breaking, causing serious consequences in construction sector. — VNS
