Việt Nam confirms four new COVID-19 cases, all from abroad, raising total to 318

HÀ NỘI — The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Saturday afternoon announced four new imported cases of COVID-19 in Việt Nam, including two returning from Russia, one from the Philippines and one from Cambodia.

The 315th patient is a 39-year-old man residing in Tân Châu District, Tây Ninh Province. He illegally returned to Việt Nam from Siem Reap, Cambodia, through a trail on May 2. He then came to stay at his relative’s house in Tân Đông Hamlet, Tân Thành Commune, Tân Châu District.

Upon his aunt's request, he reported his case to the local police and was sent to a quarantine area on May 3.

On May 5, he tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 but, on May 15, he tested positive for the virus.

As many as 17 people identified to have had close contact with the patient were taken to quarantine areas at Tân Châu District Health Centre and Tây Ninh Province General Hospital.

The 316th patient is a 19-year-old man, residing in Đà Nẵng City. He returned to Việt Nam from the Philippines on flight QH9352 which landed at Cần Thơ International Airport on May 14 and was immediately quarantined at Đồng Tháp Province Military School.

He tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on May 15 and now is under treatment at Sa Đéc General Hospital in the southern province of Đồng Tháp.

The 317th patient is a 29-year-old man, residing in the central province of Khánh Hoà. He returned to Việt Nam from Russia on flight VN62 which landed at Vân Đồn International Airport on May 13. His sample was taken on May 13 and he tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on Saturday. Now, he is being treated at Thái Bình Province General Hospital.

The 318th patient is a 41-year-old woman, residing in the central city of Thanh Hoá. She was also on flight VN62. She tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on Saturday and is at Thái Bình Province General Hospital.

To date, 27 out of 345 passengers on flight VN62 tested positive for the new coronavirus.

With these four new cases, Việt Nam’s total COVID-19 cases increased to 318, 178 of which were imported cases that have been quarantined upon arrival.

Việt Nam continues to record no deaths from COVID-19 since the first case was reported in the country on January 23. Saturday also marks the 30th day without community transmission in the country.

The country’s total recovered cases is 260.

Of the 58 active cases, four have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once and another 12 cases tested negative for the virus more than twice.

As many as 9,161 people are under quarantine, including 302 quarantined at hospitals, 7,179 at concentrated quarantine areas and 1,680 at home. They either returned from abroad or have come into close contact with confirmed cases. — VNS
