HÀ NỘI — The Hà Nội People’s Council yesterday approved resolutions on special expenses in the city’s budget for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in the capital.

Chairwoman of the People’s Council Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc said according to the resolution on the city's budget for COVID-19 prevention and control, members of the council had agreed to offer an allowance for four groups of participants in COVID-19 prevention and pay 50 per cent of the house rental fee for students and workers.

The members of the council also agreed to support funding for teaching on television, business registration fees for enterprises and create a mechanism to support State agencies.

The total budget for these expenses is estimated at VNĐ406 billion (US$17.5 million). Of which, VNĐ351 billion is from the city budget and the other VNĐ55 billion is from districts' budgets.

According to the Economic and Budget Committee of the city People's Council, the budget management of the city and localities is sufficient to ensure funds for this new spending.

Also at the meeting, Ngọc said the city and localities nationwide have seriously implemented the guidelines and orientations of the Party and Government in both fighting COVID-19 and developing the socio-economy as well as maintaining security and social order.

This was the result of the close guidance and drastic measures of the city as well as the strict observance of the people, she said.

At the meeting, the People's Council also voted to approve a resolution regarding investment policies and the adjustment of investment policies for some medium-term public investment projects in 2016-20.

The council approved investments for six projects constructing overpasses for pedestrians in some areas in the districts of Hoàng Mai, Ba Đình, and Nam Từ Liêm, with the total cost VNĐ34.63 billion ($1.49 million).

The People’s Council also approved adjusting investment policies for four projects with a total estimated investment of VNĐ713.27 billion ($13.67 million).

The chairwoman of the People's Council said these were projects with large total investment, which is important for building economic infrastructure, transport, irrigation, developing education and training to promote socio-economic development. —VNS
