ĐIỆN BIÊN — Police have seized five home-made guns left by illegal loggers in the protection forest in northern mountainous Điện Biên Province in a raid conducted on Sunday afternoon.

At 2pm on Sunday, the border soldiers in Cò Chạy Village in Mường Pồn Commune received reports from local residents on illegal logging in the protection forest near the village.

The police set up a checkpoint and found a group of people passing the area.

When asked to open their bags, the group fled, leaving five home-made guns and a plastic bag of bullets inside.

The police said it was likely this was a group of illegal loggers operating in the area.

The police are looking for the suspects.

Previously in April, the border soldiers also seized six home-made guns. Five people involved in the manufacturing of the firearms were detained. — VNS
