CÀ MAU — The Ministry of Transport has approved the construction of a 14km bypass around Cà Mau City on National Highway 1A.

Lê Thành Huấn, deputy director of the Cà Mau Province Department of Transport, said congestion is a regular feature in the inner city, and the bypass is expected to reduce the load on the highway.

It will link Ring Road No 3 and the Southern Coastal Corridor to create a complete transport network in the southern provinces.

The Ministry of Transport’s Project Management Board No 7 has been assigned the task of doing a feasibility study.

The construction is expected to cost the Government more than VNĐ1.7 trillion (US$73 million), including VNĐ192 billion ($8.2 million) for land acquisition.

Of the amount, around VNĐ55 billion ($2.4 million) will be allocated this year.

The bypass will be 11m wide with a designed maximum speed of 80km per hour.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year and be completed in 2022. — VNS
