ĐÀ NẴNG — An American woman was captured on Monday after try to escape from quarantine in Sơn Trà District of the central province Đà Nẵng.
Local police and a medical response team had tracked her down and taken her to an isolation site at the Public Security Hospital No 199, Doctor Trương Xuân Hùng from the hospital confirmed on Monday.
He said the woman (D.R.), 30, entered Việt Nam on February 13, after transiting in Taiwan (China).
Director of Sơn Trà District’s medical centre said the woman came in for a health check at the centre on the morning of Monday as she was suffering from a cough and fever, typical symptoms of COVID-19.
Having checked her travel itinerary, doctors decided to send her to a quarantine site as regulated by the Ministry of Health for suspected COVID-19 cases.
However, the American attacked health staff and tried to flee from the hospital at around 9am. Local police and the medical response team found her one hour later in Phước Mỹ Ward in Sơn Trà District.
The city has allocated seven hospitals as quarantine sites and treatment centres for suspected cases and patients.
The Sam Grand Hotel has been set up as the major isolation site for all foreign passengers who had come into contacts with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Four foreigners are being monitored at Hospital No 199, while 24 others are placed in isolation at Sam Grand Hotel.
Earlier this month, 39 foreigners, who had close contact with two British COVID-19 patients No 22 and 23, were returned home after completing quarantine time and testing negative for SARS-CoV-2. — VNS
