HCM CITY — The HCM City police has begun an investigation into the cause of the fire at the Public Transportation Management Centre’s document storehouse on May 2.

The blaze destroyed 40 tonnes of documents related to city subsidies for bus services besides some bus tickets.

The director of the centre, Trần Chí Trung, said accounts for thousands of billions worth of subsidies provided in 2011-16 have yet to be prepared. However, an independent auditor has copies of them, he added.

In 2018 the city's transport department had asked the centre for the accounts pertaining to the subsidies for 2012 – 16.

The delay in preparing accounts for the bus subsidies means city agencies have yet to prepare the accounts for the funds granted to the Department of Transport for the past several years, Tuổi Trẻ newspaper reported.
