HÀ NỘI — Traffic accidents have left more than 1,350 dead and nearly 2,200 injured in the first two months of this year, according to a report by the Ministry of Public Security and the Việt Nam Maritime Administration.

According to the report, the number of deaths and injuries were all lower in the first two months of this year than they were in the same period of 2018. There were 150 fewer deaths and 348 fewer injuries.

More than 2,800 traffic accidents were reported nationwide in the first two months of the year. On February alone, 1,295 traffic accidents claimed 627 lives and caused 1,032 injures.

Deputy Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee Khuất Việt Hùng said the number of traffic accidents in February and the first two months of the year had seen a reduction from the same period last year.

However, he said there were still some serious accidents that caused great losses in lives and property, adding that the two latest serious crashes on Nội Bài-Lào Cai Expressway and Thăng Long Boulevard in February claimed four lives and caused 15 injures.

The National Traffic Safety Committee and relevant agencies will continue to implement solutions to ensure traffic order and safety and reduce congestion during March and the festival season, according to Hùng. — VNS
