HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has approved a detailed construction plan at a scale of 1:500 for Bạch Đằng Park in District 1.
The park, to be located in Bến Nghé and Nguyễn Thái Bình wards, is expected to become a new attraction for local residents and foreign visitors, according to the city’s Department of Planning and Architecture.
The 18ha park will run from Sài Gòn Bridge to Tân Thuận Bridge, going through Tân Cảng (New Port), Ba Son Shipyard, Bạch Đằng Wharf, Thủ Ngữ Flagpole and Sài Gòn Port.
It will include a pedestrian street, an underground parking lot and underground four-lane road at a section along Tôn Đức Thắng Street.
Three bus stops and a light rail transit station, and wharves for water taxis and water buses, will be located near the park.
A number of retail shops, coffee shops and restaurants will be set up at Mê Linh Square on Tôn Đức Thắng Street.
The municipal People’s Committee has asked the department to submit a plan for an underground road and a parking lot.
The city has submitted a plan to the Ministry of Transport that would turn Ba Son Shipyard into a place to welcome yachts with an aim of attracting more local and international tourists by sea. — VNS
