Universities have launched new majors to meet the demands of digital transformation in the 4.0 industry era.

HCM CITY – Universities have launched new majors to meet the demands of digital transformation in the 4.0 industry era. 

Dr Đỗ Văn Dũng, rector of the HCM City University of Technology and Education, said that 20 students this year would receive free tuition in the new robot and artificial intelligence major this year.

Lecturers in mechanical engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, and information technology in the programme will give instruction in English.

Eligible students for the programme must have outstanding marks at schools for gifted students or have a 24 score in the upcoming national high school graduation examination.

Recruitment demand related to robots, machine learning and artificial intelligence is expected to increase by 16 per cent year by year over the next few years.

The university has also launched a major in technical infrastructure in construction. Dũng said that graduates would learn how to create a safe and convenient living environment, including how to save energy.

Two other majors, textile and garments and international business, will also begin this year at the university.

Việt Nam National University HCM City (VNUHCM) plans to increase the number of programmes and majors for bachelor’s degrees to 197 this year from 189.

Its University of Social Sciences and Humanities will have two new majors, information administration and Vietnamese studies for Vietnamese students. It already offers a degree in Vietnamese studies that accepts foreigners only.

The university plans to begin a new “high-quality” training programme in tourism management, while its School of Medicine will set up maxillo-facial and nursing faculties. 

VNUHCM’s branch in the Mekong Delta province of Bến Tre will have three new faculties offering courses in infrastructure work monitoring and maintenance, quality assurance and food safety, and renewable energy.

HCM City Open University will enroll students in the new majors of marketing, economics and computer sciences, with the latter two offering high-quality training programmes for their students.

The National Economics University will offer digital business training in English, which will include courses in advanced applications of IT and digital technology.

Hà Nội University will open two new majors of multimedia communication and marketing with instruction in English this year. Phạm Ngọc Thạch, the university’s rector, said the major of multimedia communication will also be launched.

The University of Science which is a member of Việt Nam National University Hà Nội will open new majors related to Industry 4.0. They include geospatial information science, biotechnology, digital technology and physics.

According to the university, the geospatial information science major will meet increasing demand in sectors related to education, and state and enterprise administration.

The students in this field will study the management of environmental resources, geospatial applications, big data, artificial intelligence, and other subjects.–VNS
