HÀ NỘI — The Government Office should listen more to public opinion, Government members, relevant ministries and agencies to improve its role as a key consultancy body, said Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

It should also promote its position as a channel to receive and reflect opinions of the public and businesses and keep following up until these opinions are dealt with, PM Phúc said at a meeting held in Hà Nội on Thursday to review the Government Office’s performance in 2018 and implement 2019 mission.

The office needs to build an effective working plan for 2019 in order to create a stronger progress.

The Government leader asked the office to continue managing administrative reforms nationwide to cut unreasonable and unnecessary procedures that trouble businesses.

It was crucial for the office to strengthen information dissemination tasks to enhance public trust and business in the leadership of the Party and State and fight against corruption and wastefulness, PM Phúc said.

The office should propose measures for the PM and Deputy PMs to deal with problems quickly and effectively.

He said staff should continue learning to improve their knowledge and professional skills to fulfill assigned tasks and act as a mirror for others to follow.

Employees also needed to acknowledge important domestic and international events and information to be able to forecast challenges as well as opportunities for the country, he noted.

PM Phúc spoke highly of the office’s performance in 2018, saying it actively followed and acknowledged practical situations to report to and consult the Government and the Government leader to provide guidance in a timely manner to deal with difficulties and issues of great concern among the public, including forest protection, smuggling, security and violations of teachers’ ethics.

Particularly, the office proactively coordinated with relevant ministries and agencies in law building tasks to ensure the quality of issued legal documents and institutions, he said.

Mass mobilisation

Earlier the same day, PM Phúc attended a conference held in Hà Nội to review the mass mobilisation sector’s performance in 2018 and deploy its tasks for this year.

He emphasised mass mobilisation activities should be stepped up in order to consolidate national solidarity and strengthen the people’s trust in the Party’s leadership.

The Government leader spoke highly of the encouraging results gained over the past 12 months as it has drawn the participation of the entire political system in order to better serve the people.

Accordingly, the work has significantly contributed to realising the country’s goals for socio-economic development, in addition to ensuring security and defence, and improving people’s livelihoods.

However, there are still existing problems, which can be seen in the settlement of petitions and complaints, prolonged administrative procedures, and site clearance, he noted, asking those working in the mass mobilisation to maintain a close bond with the people and timely address their concerns.

At the conference, a joint action plan between the Government and the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation was signed by Deputy PM Trương Hoà Bình and Head of the Commission Trương Thị Mai. — VNS
