HÀ NỘI — A serious traffic accident occurred on Tuesday evening on Trích Sài Street in Hà Nội’s Tây Hồ District when an intoxicated driver slammed her car into a number of motorbikes, injuring six people.
Police investigators have identified the driver of the Lexus car that caused the accident as Nguyễn Thu Trang, a 29-year-old woman living in the city’s Hoàn Kiếm District.
She had a high level of alcohol in her breath, above 0.7 milligrammes per litre of breathing air.
Under the Decree No 46/2016/NĐ-CP which sets the penalties for drunk driving, an alcohol level in excess of 0.4 milligrammes per litre of breathing air sees a fine of VNĐ3-4 million. The fine for driving with an alcohol level between 0.25 and 0.4 milligrammes is VNĐ1-2 million.
At about 6:10pm, Trang was driving the seven-seat car down Trích Sài Street towards Lạc Long Quân Road when she crashed into a series of motorbikes and two cars. There was another woman in the car.
A witness told vov.vn online newspaper that as the car passed No 87 Trích Sài Street, it hit a taxi then swerved and crashed into a number of motorbikes, only stopping after pulling a motorbike into the road and colliding with a traffic police car.
The injured victims were transferred to Đức Giang Hospital. Eight motorcycles were seriously damaged, including the one swept under the car, and wreckage was strewn across the road.
Local police immediately reported to the site to control traffic and support the victims. — VNS
