QUẢNG NINH — Côn Đảo Express 36 – a high-capacity, high-speed ship made in Việt Nam – was launched from the northern province of Quảng Ninh on Thursday.
The ship was built by the one-member Ltd. Co 189 (in Đình Vũ Industrial Zone, Hải Phòng), and Phú Quốc High-Speed Ship Building Joint-Stock Company.
Côn Đảo Express 36 is expected to start serving Vũng Tàu - Côn Đảo and Trần Đề - Côn Đảo tourism routes in the first quarter of next year.
The ship was designed following European standards. At 46.85 metres in length and a maximum width of 12.2 metres, it has a capacity of 598 passengers.
The ship is equipped with four Rolls-Royce engines with a total capacity of 7,404 horsepower. The maximum speed of 35 nautical miles per hour will shorten the trip from Vũng Tàu to Côn Đảo to three hours.
Inside the ship are sound-proof floors, audio entertainment systems and wireless headsets. The passenger compartment has two floors. In addition to regular seats, there are Delux and VIP seating areas. Each VIP chair is equipped with an international-standard entertainment screen.
Phú Quốc High-Speed Ship Building Joint-Stock Company has successfully put into operation two other high-speed ships with a capacity of 300 passengers each at Phú Quốc, Nam Du and Hòn Sơn islands in Kiên Giang Province.
The company plans to launch two more ships designed like Côn Đảo Express 36 on other island tourism routes in the first quarter of next year. — VNS
