BẮC KẠN — Police in the northern mountainous province of Bắc Kạn arrested four people for trafficking nearly 70 kilos of heroin in Tú Trĩ Commune on Wednesday.
Triệu Văn Vinh, Triệu Văn Lực and Giàng A Di were arrested driving a container truck on National Highway 3 in Bạch Thông District. Not longer after, police arrested the fourth suspect Vàng A Minh.
Minh admitted to police that he was hired to transport the heroin from Laos to Cao Bằng Province and then to China for VNĐ1 billion (US$43,000).
Colonel Trịnh Vũ Ngàn, head of the district’s police department, said they had been watching the suspects for a long time.
They had taken measures to avoid the police, and while carrying the shipment, worth about VNĐ40 billion ($1.72 million), they had stopped in Thái Nguyên Province to change vehicles, he said.
The case is under further investigation. — VNS
