HÀ NỘI — One person was killed and 13 were injured in a shipping accident on Wednesday in the northern province of Quảng Ngãi.
The incident involved a fishing vessel that exploded about six nautical miles from Lý Sơn Island.
Dương Minh Hùng, 21, died on the spot, while eight others suffering from serious injuries are being treated at Đà Nẵng City Hospital. The remaining five with lesser injuries were sent to the Lý Sơn Island Medical Station.
The reason for the accident is being investigated.
Wednesday also saw another case happenning with a ship transporting more than 1,000 tonnes of cement in the northern province of Nam Định.
The ship overturned and sank in the Đào River.
No casualties were reported. However, losses were estimated at billions of đồng. (VNĐ1 billion equals US$43,400)
The investigation showed that the ship, belonged to the Nam Giang Co Ltd in Nam Trực District, crashed into another vessel transporting sand.
All four people on the ships swam safely to shore.
Nam Định authorities are planning to raise the ship. — VNS
